Welcome to The Ladybird Class Page
We are pleased to welcome our brand new Ladybird Reception class and their families this year. We are a class of 11 Reception children and we are lucky enough to have 8 year 1 children join us in the afternoons.
We all are ready to follow our school vision.
We are learning to:
Be learning leaders (Be Ready and Be Kind)
Be Articulate Adventurers (Be Curious)
Be Global Guardians (Be Safe and Responsible)
Our learning
Throughout the year we use different topics to help us with our learning. During our week we learn through play and exploring activities linked to our topic. At the beginning of the year we were learning about dinosaurs and had so much fun exploring dinosaur fossils, eggs and so much more! Everything we do is based around the children and we will always follow their lead and what excites and engages them.
This year our topics are the following:
Dangerous dinosaurs,
Marvellous machines,
Bright lights, big city,
Long ago,
Our wonderful world,
Animal safari.
Each week the children have a PE session and a Woodland session, this is with our brilliant Woodland school teacher Mrs Mud, who makes learning outdoors so exciting and fun. As well as this we do music, Art, RE, science and so much more each week.
Every day is a different day, however our day always includes singing nursery rhymes, having snack together as a class and milk in the afternoon with a story. This down time is a lovely time for your children's personalities to shine through, the Reception children at the moment love to sing songs, we do this lots!
Phonics
Phonics
At Shotley Primary school we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds as our phonics scheme. This is a fantastic scheme which allows our children to become fluent and expressive readers from Reception. The children in the Ladybirds look forward to our phonics lessons and learning new sounds to help them on their reading journey.
Below are some helpful links to support your children with phonics at home.
